Worthing Care Centre

The Worthing Borough Council has provided the funding for a new Worthing Integrated Care Centre, a multi-million-pound investment into their community. This brings the most cutting-edge facilities possible to the south coast town, adding additional GP offices, Mental Health Services, Community Care and a pharmacy.

Due to the nature of this challenge, the contractor turned to Altrad Generation to help provide a solution that would meet the requirements for safe working. Utilising the design capabilities from Combisafe support providing the designs within 72 hours.

It will be a 4-story RC frame building, with a cross-laminated timber roof. This means there was a challenge from the contractor to provide safe working conditions whilst construction workers were at the height of the building.

The project manager highlighted that “because it’s extendable and you can adjust the heights, as well as add a make-up barrier to increase the barrier height. That makes it an ideal solution for when the roof level gets built up, the barriers are already there in place. That’s another selling point for us”.

The requirement was complex due to site requirements and the required loading meant we had to drastically increase the number of uprights so the structure could cope with the loading requirements and a testament to our system’s capabilities”.
