The Project
Our Northampton branch was approached by the client to supply 312 450mm high-capacity alloy beams at a size of 4.1 metres for the highly complex installation of the bridge’s final section.
The bridge, is set to be a transformative addition to the town, providing a crucial third crossing over Lake Lothing to alleviate traffic congestion. Additionally, the bridge is poised to catalyse economic growth by attracting new investments and breathing new life into the local community. With construction of the final section to commence on Friday, 8th March, our Northampton Team ensured the timely delivery of the beams within a two-week timeframe, adhering to stringent deadlines.
The 1120 tonne bascule span arrived by barge from Holland on the 4th of March. The colossal structure measures 39.5m long, 22m wide, and 35m tall. Supported by 750 tonnes of permanent structural steelwork and an additional 370 tonnes of temporary ballast, which ensures stability during installation, the bridge will stand over 50 metres above the water below and will be the world’s largest rolling bascule bridge.
The client consistently praised the professional support provided by our team. From the initial engagement with the sales team to the swift and efficient delivery from the delivery drivers.
